How did you get involved in lumberjack sports?
Joined the ESF Woodsmen Team while in college in 2001

When did you begin participating/competing in lumberjack sports and the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Series?
I won the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Collegiate Championship in 2005 and have been in it ever since.

How do you train for the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Series and other lumberjack competitions?
Event Training and cutting firewood

Are you related to any current or former STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Series competitors?
Nope

Best/strongest STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Series discipline:
Depends on the day, but usually i would like to say one of the chopping events.

Any advice for the collegiate competitors?
Listen to advice from whoever will give it to you, take it home, break it down, and use what makes sense to you.

Proudest moment in your life so far:
My wife shooting her first buck.

My wife Maureen will be having our first daughter any day now!


How do you train for the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Series and other lumberjack competitions? 
Mostly just practice each event as often as time allows. In the past I have travelled to Australia and New Zealand to train and compete.  Recently began weight training for the first time in 5 years.

When did you begin participating/competing in lumberjack sports and the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Series?
I first joined the sport in 2001 with the SUNY-College of Environmental Science and Forestry woodsman team and immediately feel in love with it. I won the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Collegiate Championship in 2005, and have been in the pro series ever since.

Best/strongest STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Series discipline:
Standing block is my most consistent event


Any advice for the collegiate competitors? 
You can be told and shown a million times how to do the events, but at the end of the day you're going to have to put in your time, watch everyone, and figure things out for yourself.

When my wife shot her first buck!

Anything else you'd like to share?
My wife and I got married just a few weeks before the 2010 STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Championships at the Oregon State Fair.
