How did you get involved in lumberjack sports?

I grew up watching timbersports on TV and never thought there was a chance for me to participate, although I always wanted to.  When I came to Colorado to work on my Master's, I was looking for an outlet, found the CSU team and it worked out to be more than an outlet.  Timbersports took over my life and became my extended family.

Best/strongest STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Series discipline:

I work very hard at listening, learning and paying close attention, likely my strongest discipline so far.

Any advice for the collegiate competitors?

Listen to anyone who will talk to you, avoid saying "I know" and practice with a purpose as much as physically possible.  There is no short cut, the people who do this well have worked at it and thought about it with intensity and passion, find both.  Remember to take and watch as much video as possible.

What pro athlete/celebrity would you like to see try one of the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Series disciplines?

I think that Clay Mathews is such an athlete he could jump in as a chopper/sawyer but maybe as a boom runner or climber as well.  Will Ferrel or Seth Rogan would be a riot to set loose with anything.  Chuck Norris could likely revolutionize and roudhouse kick the whole Series given the chance.

Proudest moment in your life so far:

Watching my brother's senior recital and graduation from Lawrence University was moving and intense. More recently, singing with my whole family at Christmas services in Baraboo made me feel truly lucky.  I love hearing my family make music. In lumberjack terms, hosting AWFC Conclave 2010 with my dearest friends after building a whole new facility for Conclave and the future was amazing.  Stepping onto the deck at Hayward this summer in the company of giants like Wynyard, Cogar Jr., Otoole Jr. and Sr.,  Lentz, Will, Bucket and Nancy Z was also remarkable.

Anything else you'd like to share?

In 2009, I had a giant retinal tear from an accident at the gym.  Thankfully there are amazing Doctors in Fort Collins and I did not lose my eye but did spend the majority of that summer laying face down, far away from lumberjack racing.  Three surgeries later most of my vision has returned so I can train and race.  My eye has been cut opened, emptied and lasered together twice and I have learned much more than I expected about how eyeballs work
